Pre Requisits:
- Certification: Must hold a valid RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence.
- Theory: Completion of the RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Theory course.
- Qualifying Passage:
- Distance: Minimum of 600 nautical miles (as recorded by the log).
- Duration: At least 96 hours continuous at sea.
- Offshore Requirement: At least 200 miles of the passage must be conducted more than 50 miles from land or charted objects.
- Position: The vessel must be actively managed by the candidate, who should be in charge of a watch or act as skipper.
- Astro-Navigation Knowledge: Practical experience in navigating using a sextant, including planning, reduction, and plotting of a sun-run-meridian altitude or sun-run-sun sight.
- Evidence: A completed, signed passage report must be presented to the examiner.
- Age: Minimum 18 years old.
